Brave Heart of Zagreb Ring

Zagreb County, the Ana Rukavina Foundation and the Department of Transfusion Medicine are working together to launch the project “Brave Heart of Zagreb Ring”!
The Ana Rukavina Foundation, in association with the Department of Transfusion Medicine and Stem Cell Therapy at the University Hospital Center Zagreb, and with the support of Zagreb County, has launched the humanitarian project titled “Brave Heart of Zagreb Ring”. The aim of the project is to bring together all of the towns in Zagreb County in an action to raise funds for the expansion of the Croatian Registry of voluntary bone marrow and stem cell donors, as well as for tissue typing the collected blood samples.
The presentation of the project “Brave Heart of Zagreb Ring” will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 10 AM at the premises of Zagreb County, 6th floor – Hall 1, Ivana Lučića 2a, Zagreb.
The presentation of the project will be attended by the following representatives of the cities of Zagreb County:
1. Dražen Šarić, University Hospital Center – Zagreb, Department of Transfusion Medicine
• opening speech and brief presentation of the project “Brave Heart of Zagreb Ring”
2. Ana Rukavina Foundation: presentation of the activities to develop the Croatian Registry of voluntary bone marrow and stem cell donors
4. Dr. Branka Golubić Čepulić, D.Sc., Director of the Department of Transfusion Medicine and Head of the Cord Blood Bank “Ana Rukavina” at University Hospital Center – Zagreb
• presentation of the work of the Public Cord Blood Bank “Ana Rukavina”
5. Rudolf Vujević, Zagreb County Deputy Prefect
In the period from July 16th to August 16th 2010, 1000 new potential donor samples of bone marrow and stem cells have been tissue typed using the DNK method for HLA (HLA - Human leukocyte antigen) A, B and DRB1! more »
700 new donor blood samples have been tissue typed. The Registry now lists 15,875 HLA tissue typed donors which are able to be searched for genetic compatibility and tissue tolerance between the donor and the patient who is awaiting bone marrow transplantation for treatment. more »
Among the winners of the Top Scholarships, the Foundation’s volunteer, Neven Mihić, received special recognition: the “Top Scholarship Ivo Pukanić” award, bestowed by the collegium of the editorial board of Nacional in honor of the late Ivo Pukanić, who was one of authors behind the idea for the entire project. more »
